Portia de Rossi was actually studying law in her native Australia when she was bitten by the acting bug – and her career began in earnest when she played the role of a young model in the erotic movie Sirens. Peter has been married to his wife, non-profit head Martha Sue “Marsue” Cumming, for over 30 years – and the longtime offbeat actor has also had a longtime offbeat hobby: playing the bagpipes (diehard McBeal fans may even remember him playing them on the show!). A prolific voiceover actor, he’s voiced many comic book villains – and parents of little ones may recognize him as Nigel the Advisor on Disney Channel’s Tangled: The Series.

Since his time on Ally McBeal, he’s scored numerous TV and film credits, including roles on 24, Grey’s Anatomy, and, most notably, guest-starring as power broker Jeff Kane on Veep.
Peter actually appeared as attorney Alan Birch on Kelley’s medical drama Chicago Hope before earning an Emmy as Ally’s adorably weird boss John “The Biscuit” Cage. Yet another acting heavyweight with off-Broadway and Broadway credits under his belt, Peter was an accomplished Shakespearean actor before joining the cast – and had been scouted from the stage earlier for a role in Sophie’s Choice.
